Hello to everyone and welcome to Connect2Doc.
Over the next few months we’re going to be discussing all things medical.
We have an exciting series with children health including newborn, kids and adolescent issues. We’ll then move onto women’s health and discuss all things related to you and keep you abreast of all the girlie topics. It’s also important that we know about men’s health as we are all daughters, sisters, mothers and partners with men featuring somewhere in our lives.
This weeks topic is 'GERMS-THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY'
I thought I’d start with a brief definition of germs. What exactly is a germ?
Ok a germ is a microscopic organism and for simplicity we can divide them into bacteria and viruses. There are some other organisms like fungi but we are keeping it simple.
Now imagine your body is a mini ecosystem. In fact don’t imagine it- It’s true.
We have bacteria everywhere however viruses are not as robust and do not usually survive outside our body or on our skin for more than a few hours In fact we are one big petri dish with everything living in harmony. We have bacteria on our skin, up our noses, in our mouth, our intestines…..just about everywhere and for the most part everyone lives in harmony. She segued into IT in 1997 and spent the next 7 years travelling between Brisbane & New York. Anne-Marie found that the skills she had were a rare commodity and she was in demand by major corporations, such as Polo Ralph Lauren (yes, she got great discounts!), Goodyear, Bristol Myers-Squibb, Aventis Pharmaceuticals, Australia Post & Mitre 10.
She met her husband whilst travelling and they started a family. Once baby number three arrived, it was time to semi-retire from her international IT consulting career.
Anne-Marie was looking for a business that would reduce her extensive travel and allow her to spend more time with her family. This was particularly important as Anne-Marie & her husband, Joel had plans to home educate their children and their eldest son was about to start school.
